Braun Thermoscan 5 Ear Thermometer IRT6020

The Braun ThermoScan 5 IRT6020 measures the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and surrounding tissue. Since the eardrum shares blood supply with the temperature control centre in the brain, the ear accurately reflects the core body temperature. When the temperature rises, this can be easily spotted in the ear. The ear is therefore an excellent place to measure temperature.

Unlike other ear thermometers, the Braun Thermoscan features a pre-warmed tip which minimises the cooling effect that could result from introducing a cool probe tip into the ear.
